Used MacBook Ghana Buying Guide

UK-used MacBooks can be good value, but hidden MDM locks, weak batteries, damaged keyboards, and water exposure can turn a cheap deal into a repair bill.

1. Check for Remote Management

Erase and activate the Mac while connected to Wi-Fi if the seller allows it. If a Remote Management screen appears, the Mac may belong to a company or school and can become unusable.

2. Check Battery Cycle Count

Open System Settings or System Information and check battery condition plus cycle count. A very high cycle count means the battery may need replacement soon, so the price should reflect that.

3. Test Keyboard, Trackpad, Ports, and Charger

Type every key, test the trackpad click, connect USB-C or MagSafe charging, and check all ports. A fake or weak charger can also cause charging problems later.

4. Inspect Screen and Hinges

Look for pressure marks, flickering, color lines, dead pixels, and loose hinges. Screen replacement can be expensive and may not be worth it on an older model.

5. Look for Water Damage Signals

Warning signs include sticky keys, corrosion near ports, random shutdowns, fan noise, swollen bottom case, or a seller who refuses longer testing.

Buying both phone and laptop?

Use the computer checklist while testing the exact MacBook, then use the phone checklist for iPhones and Android phones.
