MoMo Payment Safety for Used Phones in Ghana
Many bad deals start before the buyer even sees the phone. If the seller wants Mobile Money first, pause and verify the risk.
1. Avoid Holding Deposits
A seller may say many people want the phone and ask you to send a small amount to hold it. This is a common pressure tactic. Do not pay before testing the exact device.
2. Meet Where Testing Is Possible
Choose a bright public place where you can insert your SIM, test calls and mobile data, check iCloud, inspect the screen, test charging, and review the IMEI without being rushed.
3. Keep the Device in Sight
After testing, do not let the seller take the phone away to pack it, clean it, or put it in a bag. Keep the exact tested device visible until the deal is complete.
4. Use Your Own SIM and Charger
Do not rely only on the seller's SIM, Wi-Fi, or charger. Bring your own items so you can catch carrier lock, weak charging, and network issues.
5. Walk Away From Rushed Deals
If the seller refuses reset, SIM testing, IMEI check, or enough time for inspection, the safest move is to leave. Missing a deal is cheaper than buying a locked or damaged phone.
